KAYAKING:
A Place by the Sea is ideally located on the waterfront of Sechelt Inlet, also known as the Inland Sea. The Sechelt Inlet is one of the favourite kayaking destinations on the Sunshine coast and is known as a paddler’s paradise for kayakers of all skill levels. Offering miles of protected sea kayaking, Sechelt Inlet, Salmon Inlet and the Narrows Inlet combine to from the Inland Sea. Kayak rentals for A Place by the Sea guests are located conveniently less than 5 minutes down the shoreline from our Bed & Breakfast!

HIKING:
There are hundreds of excellent hikes of all levels to be enjoyed from one end of the Coast to the other. Walk leisurely through old growth forest paths or along spectacular ocean beaches. Hikers will find many options for forest and mountain explorations with countless kilometers of trails. Some popular destinations include the Famous Skookumchuck Provincial Park to view the Skookumchuck Narrows, Francis Point Marine Park, Mount Daniel, Smuggle Cove Marine Park, Sargeant Bay Provincial Park, and so much more. Upon arrival at A Place by the Sea, our guests are provided with detailed Sunshine Coast Recreation Maps which show the hundreds of hikes/walks the coast has to offer. We’ll help find the right hike for you!
BIKING:
The BC Sunshine Coast is riddled with biking trails and remote logging roads and trails that make for fantastic mountain biking. Available to our guests are maps and trail information for several great Sunshine Coast biking routes.
On the Edge Biking Store, just minutes from A Place by the Sea, offers Mountain Bike Rentals and guided cycling tours.
HORSEBACK RIDING:
About a 30 to 40 minute drive from A Place by the Sea, Malaspina Ranch in Pender Harbour offers Horseback Riding trips throughout the year. Sturdy trail horses take riders of all levels to mountainous elevations of up to 1,800 feet. From these heights, equestrians get spectacular views of the ocean, the Caren Mountain Range, Mount Daniel and Pender Harbour.
Excursions last up to about 2 hours at a walk, trot or canter. Rates: $60 per person.

GOLF:
Golf on the BC Sunshine Coast is an amazing experience. Towering firs and cedars line courses overlooking beautiful ocean vistas and breathtaking mountain ranges. Rolling hills and sloping greens make for challenging play. There are 3 main golf courses on the lower Sunshine Coast.
SECHELT GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB:
is located on a plateau above the town of Sechelt and is less than a 5 minute drive from A Place by the Sea! Sechelt Golf & Country Club has something for everyone. This public golf course measures 6553 yards from the back tees. It has generous fairways and a links style design on the front nine, while the back combines water, trees and proper shot making for a true enjoyable round of golf. Open for play 12 months of the year, the facility also boasts a covered and lit 18 stall driving range. The practice area includes a practice bunker, putting green, chipping green and a grass teed area especially for golf instruction. The course is easily walkable, however one can rent a power or pull car.

SUNSHINE COAST GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB:
is located in Roberts Creek and is just a 15 minute drive from A Place by the Sea! PENDER HARBOUR GOLF CLUB:
Established in 1986 as a 9-hole course open to the public, Pender Harbour is carved from dense Sunshine Coast forest providing a unique and challenging blend of gently rolling and hilly fairways. Water hazards are scattered strategically throughout the course; the fairways are narrow but not overly demanding; the greens and tee boxes are elevated allowing wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and breathtaking scenery. Pender Harbour is worth playing for the 4th hole alone. From the championship tees, it requires an uphill tee shot of 230 yards to reach the crest. From there, the green lies a full 250-yards away. The views are as spectacular as the occasional pars.

DIVING:
The BC Sunshine Coast is rated one of the world's top places for cold water recreational diving! The waters offer incredible visibility year round, crystal clean unpolluted waters, colourful and abundant marine life, all weather diving with sheltered waters, dive sites for all levels of diving experience, shore and boat dives, and the HMCS Chaudire Artificial Reef Site.

Georgia Strait Side:
- White Islets: large barren rocks whose underside are covered with sea life and resident octopus, often seals and sea lions for dive buddies
- Trail Islands: easy wall dives, octopus, beautiful underwater gardens
- Agamemnon Channel: pristine waters, deeps walls with gorgonian red corals
Sechelt Inlet Side:
Skookumchuck Narrows: most sought after drift dive on the coast, abundant sea life due to high tidal exchange. This dive only available during slack tides
- Tzoonie Narrows: almost always diveable, similar to Skookumchuck
- HMS Chaudiere: artificial reef, 350' destroyer sunk in 1992,
approaching 10 years of marine growth, huge resident ling cods
- Piper Point: wall dive, huge plumose anemones, octopus and wolf eel
- Carlson Point: deeps walls and ledges, known for nudibranchs,
octopus and wolf eel
- Power Lines: deeps walls and ledges, beautiful dive, octopus, wolf eel,
cloud sponges and a number of six:gill shark sightings (unknown before)
SHORE DIVES:
- Trail Bay: off beach in front of Sechelt, treasure hunt for antique bottles, china and general collectibles from Union Steamship Dock days, fun and easy
- Coopers Green: easy entry, diver friendly park, lots of nudibranch, wolf eel, anemones and resident octopus
- Martin's Cove: secluded cove with deep wall, beautiful sea life with wolf eel, octopus and nudibranchs
- Tuwanek: small island close to shore, mix of walls and small reefs, wolf eels, lots of anemones and sea life

The Sechelt Scenic Tour: Fly over the Skookumchuck Narrows and see the rapids boiling through a narrow passage and draining the Inlet with its tidal waters. See wildlife and nature at its most spectacular moments. Rounding the corner into Pender Harbour we pass over the deepest water on the West Coast, the Agamemmon Channel. CROSS COUNTRY SKIING & SNOWSHOEING:
Explore the Sunshine Coast in Winter! Dakota Ridge near Sechelt offers outstanding Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing. The Dakota Ridge back country is a favorite of locals in winter. This high plateau has abundant snow for cross-country skiing with telemark routes on the north side of the bowl at the ridge. The Dakota Ridge offers spectacular viewpoints of Vancouver Island, North Shore Mountains and Mount Baker. Alpha Adventures offers superb winter tours on the Sunshine Coast.

Join our certified instructors for a great day out on the snow. This introductory lesson will teach you all the basics for skiing in classic or skate technique. You will learn the fundamentals of movement on skis, ascending and descending hills and stopping. The package price includes your rentals, trail fee,instruction and 4 X 4 transportation.
